Building airtightness (the so called envelope airtightness) is the resistance to inward or outward air leakage
through unintentional slot driven by differential pressure across the building envelope. The building
airtightness has important tasks in the building energy, comfort and durability performance.
The task has more and more importance in nearly zero energy building.
The uncontrolled air leakage may impact mold and moisture condensation on wall surface or inside.
This could give sanitary problems, structural degradation, failure of insulation, hvac systems failure.
The building airtightness is most important in low energy buildings, near zero energy buildings, passive
buildings, wooden buildings. Substantial energy savings are achieved by tightening building envelopes.
The building airtightness performance can be measured by blower door test. The test is widely used in
abroad country. Here in Italy the blower door test gain importance in the last years because of the
improvement in high energy building performace and the wooden building spread.
The blower door test is ever advisable but it is required in some Energy Performance Building Certification.
We conduct Blower Door Test and Thermography. Blower Door Test is required in some Energy Performance
Building Certification, is good for airleakage search, is essential in validating windows’ installation.
The Blower Door Italian recommendation is the UNI EN ISO 9972.
